6. Sid Will Match Goldberg’s Streak

At least they didn't tell Ralphus he'd be the next Bill Goldberg. Man, who'd even say something like that to anybody coming into WCW? Oh wait. In mid-1999, big Sid Vicious rejoined the promotion, and they had a plan that'd pique his interest: Sid would embark on a winning streak just like Goldberg's between 1997-1998.

Except he wouldn't. Not really.

Bill's more legitimate winning streak of 173-0 ended at Starrcade 1998 when Kevin Nash beat him (Scott Hall's cattle prod and all). On paper, WCW bringing Sid back into the mix and turning him into a squash match machine didn't seem like the worst idea in the world, but it wasn't long before things got ridiculous. So, the idea sounds decent on paper. Shame it didn’t make any sense.

Sid racked up wins even when he wasn’t actually pinning guys, and he fluffed his record by winning handicap bouts (which somehow counted as multiple wins). Numbers were added to the tally even if he kicked someone's butt backstage and hit them with a powerbomb. This was supposed to put him on par with Bill and lead to a big feud between them, but it flopped because nobody cared and the winning run was nonsense anyway.

It lacked any and all credibility. Looking back now, it was mad that WCW promised Sid he'd match Goldberg's 173-0 run in just a few short months. Quickly running out of time, they just started pretending that Vicious was beating all in his path, so fans lost interest.
