10 Most Shocking WWE Roster Cuts EVER

The WWE "lifers" that suddenly - and shockingly - found themselves out of the company

There are some wrestlers that just feel like they belong in WWE.

Whether it's their in-ring style, their image, or their historical links to the promotion, these grapplers don't feel like they would fit in anywhere else.

However, as we've seen time and time again throughout history, nothing is a guarantee in wrestling. The term 'WWE Lifer' means less now than it ever has. It doesn't matter how long you've been with the company or how much blood, sweat, and tears you've sacrificed to line the pockets of those at the top, if you're expendable, then you will be cut.

To give the promotion some credit, some of these names chose to leave of their own volition. It's still weird that they ever got to that point though and, sometimes, they jumped before they were pushed. From promising upstarts to main eventers to bonafide legends, these names all had to ply their trade elsewhere when the doors in Stamford were slammed in their face.

At the current rate that TKO are firing wrestlers, expect to see at least a dozen new names added to this list over the next few years.

10. Kofi Kingston

We might as well start with the guy who inspired this entire list in the first place.

On May 2nd 2026, it was revealed that The New Day (Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods) were leaving WWE. This shocking announcement brought to an end a glittering career, which included 13 tag team title reigns across Raw, SmackDown, and NXT.

That's not including their individual accomplishments, including Woods' King of the Ring crown and Kingston's reign with the WWE Championship.

While Woods leaving caught people off guard, the Kingston news was on a whole other level

Since his debut on the ECW brand all the way back in January 2008, Kingston has been a constant fixture of WWE TV. He's won championships, been part of some iconic moments, and has flown the flag for the promotion like a hero. It was assumed by many that Kingston would be part of the WWE machine for the rest of his life. Maybe that would have been the case in the old regime, but TKO have made it very clear that nobody is safe from their endless quest to cut costs and increase profits.
