10 Must-See WWE Matches, Moments, And Segments This Week (Oct 7)
Emmalina is here!
In any given week, WWE is capable of offering compelling television across the three shows - Raw, Smackdown, and NXT. Yet, typically, one show clearly stands out as the superior program. Raw this week, on the strength of night-long hype culminating in a satisfying payoff with historic ramifications, flowed much better across its still over-long run-time and threw its name in the hat for the best show.
Smackdown countered with its go-home program ahead of Sunday's No Mercy pay-per-view and, while its two main feuds delivered a pair of the week's most must-see segments, it featured an uncharacteristic amount of filler, aiding Raw's case to win the first week of October. Meanwhile, NXT - the perpetual solidly unspectacular show on WWE Network each Wednesday - concluded with a rousing main-event fuelled by a tournament named in honour of a legend.
What was the week's best match? Did Banks and Charlotte steal the week's worth of shows? What was the week's most engaging segment? Was it one of Smackdown's finest or did the week's best come courtesy of the gift of Jericho?
10. Goldberg Addresses His WWE Contract Status On ESPN
Typically trustworthy backstage sources all but confirmed this week that Goldberg vs. Brock Lesnar II had been penciled in for Survivor Series in Toronto next month, leading to widespread speculation that Bill Goldberg's appearance on ESPN would acknowledge the situation in the affirmative.
Goldberg's comeback has proven controversial on the internet. After all, the last match that he had with Lesnar, though decidedly must-see for how the crowd reacted, arguably was one of the most disappointing marquee matches of the century. That said, there is a fair amount of nostalgia that has been conjured up by his appearance in WWE 2K17 and some desire to see him step into the ring one more time.
In the ESPN interview, he did not come across as a man on the precipice of making an in-ring return, but bear in mind that Goldberg comes from a generation that did not openly admit to everything going on behind the scenes in out-of-character interviews. Goldberg's mystique was actually built during the dying days of kayfabe, so it would not be totally unlike a wrestler from his time to simply poke the figurative bear, teasing conflict without ever actually saying outright, "I want to come back and I want Lesnar".
Take it however you wish, but it was a good interview and it could very well lead into the rematch.
