10 Potential Wrestling Rematches Fans Should Be Excited For
From John Cena to CM Punk, which wrestlers have unfinished business with longtime rivals?
Previously, we here at WhatCulture looked at first-time ever wrestling matches that fans are looking forward to seeing. There is no doubt that some of the most compelling stories wrestling can offer involve seeing two stars go at it for the first time ever. That being said, sometimes a rivalry's second act can be better than their first outing.
In the world of professional wrestling, oftentimes initial match-ups are filled with disqualifications, interference or other shenanigans which hold the match back. Allowing the two wrestlers involved a second chance, without anything holding their story back, can be a recipe for success.
Currently in the world of professional wrestling there are several pairings that warrant a rematch, whether it be their second or 20 meeting. These rematches could be long-time rivals finally looking to settle a score, wrestlers in a new company setting out to outdo a previous contest, or tag team partners destined for a split.
Right now, there's such a large number of wrestlers at the top of their game, and there will always be excitement regarding two, or four, of the best in the world locking horns once again.
With that being said, here are ten potential rematches wrestling fans should be excited for.
10. John Cena Vs. Edge
Across this list, there are no greater rivals than John Cena and Edge. The Doctor of Thuganomics and Rated-R Superstar have faced off 19 teams one-on-one, in nearly every match imaginable. Dating back to 2006, there has been a Money in the Bank cash-in, a Street Fight, TLC match, Steel Cage, Elimination Chamber, and a Last Man Standing contest, as well as several tag team matches and Royal Rumble interactions.
With a history as long these two legendary wrestlers have, fans might wonder why they should be excited for a potential 20th matchup. While it may not seem obvious, one last feud between the two all-time greats can be special. Firstly, with a combination of Edge's retirement and Cena's part-time schedule, the two have not faced off in close to 12 years. Additionally, with Edge's new shift in character to lead his Judgement Day faction, this a version of The Ultimate Opportunist that John Cena has never seen before.
While facing Judgement Day on his own would be compellingly enough, having some young up and coming superstars by Cena's side could be the perfect way to solidify the future of the roster. It would also be a great way to freshen up one of the best rivalries in WWE history and provide John Cena and Edge a solid final chapter.
