3. Kevin Owens Being Caught In The Middle Of A Backstage Political Battle
Within his first two months on the main roster, Owens defeated Cena cleanly in the middle of the ring. Shortly thereafter, he began running away from challenges, and now finds himself lost in the mid-card without a greater storyline direction, other than being called fat by his peers. So why the sudden change? Its alleged that when HHH takes over, its widely believed that hes going to replace many people, including Kevin Dunn. Because Dunn sees Triple Hs taking over of WWE as a threat to his long-term employment, hes trying to sabotage Owens career in the hopes of proving how HHH isnt as smart a businessman as initially perceived, and that WWE would still need Dunn after Vince steps down. Whether the above circumstances are true or not, they make a very compelling story. With so much interest in WWEs backstage happenings these days, why not take advantage of that and create a new villain for WWE to hate? It worked for CM Punks storyline in 2011; when Punk name-dropped Jon Laurinaitis, he became an instantaneously-vilified individual that everyone wanted to boo. So while its highly unlikely that well ever see Kevin Dunn on television, creating a storyline around how the companys creative decisions are based on backstage egos is an interesting way to go about it, especially when that backstage ego is known around the world as one of the biggest enemies of professional wrestling.
