Daniel Bryan winning the title at WrestleMania 30 was perfectly done. But after that, things quickly fell off a cliff. The booking was atrocious, making him look like the biggest idiot ever as he routinely got beat upon by Kane. In retrospect, even WWE must admit that Bryan vs Kane was a poor feud to follow up WrestleMania with. Nobody cared to see it and that immediately hurt interest in Bryan as Champion. Throw into the equation that key to the storyline was Bryan's wife Brie Bella. She came across like a shrieking moron and her husband came across like the fool who couldn't protect her. But worst of all, Bryan went out injured before any of that could be put right. He was then stripped of the title a short while later. That all made him look really weak - those associations stick.
