Think of Cena as Hulk Hogan (the PG-era Super-Cena character is obviously modelled around the early 90s Hogan anyway). Hogan could go out to the ring and work with anybody he liked, from super-heavyweight heels like King Kong Bundy and Earthquake to experienced technical grapplers such as Mr. Perfect and/or Wonderful. He could even find the time to square off against, or team up with, jobbing actors, such as Mr. T or Zeus. This is not because Hogan was a great in-ring worker. In fact, Hogan pretty much sucks as a technical wrestler (and always did). In his prime, The Hulkster only ever worked one match and one match only. To quote the great Lou Thesz Hogan doesnt know a wristlock from a wristwatch! and hes 100% right, but The Hulkster does know the fans and he is very proficient at sensing a change in the wind and taking full advantage of it. In 1996, Hulk Hogan swapped his timeworn Real American shtick for the black and white badassery of the newly minted nWo (New World Order) faction. The results totally reinvigorated Hogans character, injecting another decade of main event PPV payoffs into his sagging career. As a member of the nWo, Hogan ran roughshod over the WCW roster. He insulted the fans, spat at the cameras; spray painted on walls and beat up anybody smaller than himself. He basically turned into a 6,7 Nelson Muntz from The Simpsons and, by doing so, gave jaded audiences a new reason to buy tickets to WCW events. As a wrestler, Hulk simply inverted his usual match and re-embraced his love for arch-heel Superstar Billy Graham (more on him later). Graham was the wrestler most responsible for inspiring Hogans unique character and look in the first place, so it was fitting that The Hulkster returned to his roots when he finally turned to the dark side. He even pulled the bad guy act out again in the WWE (where it led to a truly remarkable WrestleMania moment between Hulk Hogan and The Rock) and yet again in TNA as well. In fact, whenever fans begin to tire of the red and yellow routine, Hogan simply switches back to the black and white one. Would the same tactics reinvigorate Cenas career by adding another string to his bow? Absolutely.
