8. WWE Network Cruiserweight Special Becomes Instantly More Meaningful
Recently, WWE confirmed that they would present a 'Global Cruiserweight Series' on the WWE Network. This is another step in the right direction for the service, and it's clear that management want it to be an all-encompassing wrestling machine which will hook every kind of fan. Fans are especially happy, because WWE had previously put less emphasis on the Cruiserweight style. The company don't even have a Cruiserweight Title anymore, but that could change. Imagine Shane McMahon took control of Monday Night Raw post-WrestleMania and announced that he was the one behind the return of the high-flyers to WWE screens. Almost overnight, the idea of the series turns into a WCW one, heralding the return of one of wrestling's most exciting divisions in living memory. Cruiserweights were a huge part of WCW's rise and eventual success. Names like Rey Mysterio and Billy Kidman proved very popular with fans, alongside others like Dean Malenko and Eddie Guerrero. Many wrestlers used that platform to build their careers, such as Chris Jericho, and lightning could strike twice for others in 2016.
