10 Ridiculous Wrestling Gimmicks That Should Never Have Worked

5. Kane

Speaking of longevity, Kane was a character created for the sole purpose of feuding with his on-screen brother, The Undertaker. Introduced by Paul Bearer, who was feuding with 'Taker at the time, Kane's first booking was to rip the door off the infamous Hell In A Cell during a match in October 1997 between The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels. Kane was never supposed to be such a long-lasting persona for Glenn Jacobs: it was a stop-gap feud for The Undertaker in the lead-up to Wrestlemania 14. But whether it's a glowing appraisal of the talent of Jacobs or simply luck, the big guy has been around WWE consistently since he made his debut. If fans were to peruse the WWE roster in 1997, Kane wouldn't be a name many would namecheck as still being a vital part of storylines in 2015.
