One of the most unique oddball stories to come out of wrestling over the years happened in 1997, when then-WCW performer Rey Mysterio was romantically linked with Friends star Jennifer Aniston. Except, in the real world, Mysterio had never even met Aniston, but which guy is going to be insulted when they read this one!? Mysterio was, quite literally, flying high in WCW, and one of the best Cruiserweights the promotion had under contract. Eric Bischoff and WCW top brass must have been licking their chops at this one, seeing the potential for a celebrity crossover which could have been pretty huge news back in '97. Unfortunately for them, it wasn't true, but fortunately for Mysterio's wife, he was the one who broke the news to the family, and everyone laughed it off. Imagine she had been out and about before Rey had the chance to tell her what was going on, glancing over at the news stand to see this headline staring back at her! It's interesting that somebody thought this was a guaranteed seller for The National Enquirer, and shows the real pull pro wrestling had in the late-90s. It also shows that a lot of mainstream press will stop at nothing to fabricate stories, but that's another argument for another day.
