There was a time where Wade Barrett was on the verge of becoming the first English-born WWE champion in history. Think about that for a second. That was in 2010 when he was headlining pay-per-views with Randy Orton and John Cena for the WWE Championship. Now, he's lucky if he can compete on the Kickoff show against R-Truth. After so many start-and-stop pushes, WWE has ruined any chance of him getting above a certain level at this stage in his career. Why they didn't put the World Heavyweight Championship on him when they had the chance several years back remains a mystery. He was the perfect fit for SmackDown's lead heel in 2011 and 2012, and with the Big Gold Belt now non-existent, fans have lost all hope of him ever getting the main event push he has long deserved. They had a chance to reinvent the NXT alum when he became the 2015 King of the Ring earlier this year, but unsurprisingly, they squandered that opportunity by having him become an enhancement talent instead.
