When Darren Young appeared besides Damien Sandow during the 2016 Royal Rumble Kickoff show, some fans must have been scratching their heads. After all, Young normally teamed with Titus O'Neil as The Prime Time Players, and there was no real explanation given as to why he wasn't any longer. Instead, WWE just moved both men away from one another. This wasn't the first time that had happened, but at least the original split involved a mini-feud between the pair. In January, 2014, O'Neil attacked Young following the team's loss to Ryback and Curtis Axel. This was a dark time for tag team wrestling in WWE. A regular duo - Young and O'Neil - was splitting, whereas the awkward RybAxel continued to team. It made little sense. At the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view in February of that year, Titus defeated his former teammate in a short bout. He went on to form a forgettable team with Heath Slater, whilst Darren Young proceeded to do absolutely nothing. A year later, O'Neil saved Young from a beat down by The Ascension and The Prime Time Players reformed. There hadn't been a satisfying reason for any split in the first place.
