10 Things Learned From William Regal On talkSPORT

7. Thought FedEx Van Delivering WWE Letter Was A SWAT Team

Quite content to be wrestling around the UK, as well as in Germany, Regal's main objective was to someday wrestle in Japan. This is something the man would later achieve when under contract to WCW, but before all that, there was an infamous tryout with the then-WWF in 1990 at the Royal Albert Hall. Whilst over in Germany, a wrestler Regal had been working with called Terry Rudge put in a good work for him to Lord Alfred Hayes, who was under contract to Vince McMahon's promotion. One day, relaxing at home, Regal noticed a massive van parked outside his house, and immediately thought a SWAT team had been sent out to raid his house. Apparently, the guy had a few less-than-legal goods in his house, such as VCR video recorders he'd bought off the black market, and he felt the police were about to crack down on his antics. It turned out to be a FedEx van, something Regal had never seen before, and it was delivering a letter inviting him for a tryout with the World Wrestling Federation in London.
