Starting in late-January 1993, Regal had been originally scheduled to begin wrestling with World Championship Wrestling over a month earlier, but had informed WCW head honcho Bill Watts that he had given his word on carrying out a full tour in Germany, and wouldn't take on any other gigs until it was complete. Going silent on the phone at the news, Watts took a minute to reflect on what his prospective new employee had told him, only then informing him that he had the gig, because he admired the respect he was showing for his current job. It's a remarkable case of a good guy coming up trumps - obviously Regal wanted to wrestle for WCW, but he wasn't prepared to just leave the German promoter in the lurch. Incredibly, it was Rip Rogers, who was also on tour in Germany during a bit of downtime from WCW, who noticed Regal was sending out his CV and 8x10 photographs to Watts. Advising his pal that he send his CV in handwriting instead of having it typed up, it's reportedly such an action that caught the eye of WCW management, who looked upon it as a wholly professional act.
