10 Things Wrestling Fans Fully Expected To Happen In 2020 (That Still Haven't)
2. CM Punk Return
Truth be told, does anyone genuinely believe that CM Punk is going to return to wrestling? Why would he? The man gave his body to the industry and was treated like a punching bag for his troubles. He's not short of money, has a hero of a wife and is in a position to tick off every single item on his bucket list. I'm almost certain that 'match vs. Elias' is not on that list.
We're almost seven years removed from Punk's last in-ring appearance. For reference, his entire WWE career only lasted six months more than that mark. Rumours of an in-ring return are never going to go away, but it seems increasingly unlikely with every passing year.
That being said, Punk did make a surprise return to WWE TV in late 2019, as an analyst on WWE Backstage. That show was subsequently shelved by Fox in June 2020 as COVID-19 did its thing, putting the brakes on any bridge-building that may have been taking place between WWE and the Straight Edge Superstar. With just a few weeks left in 2020, Punk isn't going to be wrestling this year.
But will it be clobbering time once again in 2021? Hope dies last, or something like that.
