Before Halloween Havoc 1998, Sting had wrestled on 6 different versions of the event. At the very first show, he teamed with Ric Flair to defeat The Great Muta and Terry Funk. In 1990, he vanquished Sid Vicious, something he'd do again in 1993. Havoc 1991 opened with the infamous 'Chamber Of Horrors' match, during which Sting was on the winning side. In 1992, he beat Jake 'The Snake' Roberts in a 'Coal Miner's Glove' battle. Sting didn't wrestle on the 1994 version of the show, but he did team again with Ric Flair to beat Arn Anderson and Brian Pillman in '95. Similarly to '94, 1996 and 1997 were not Halloween Havoc events the Stinger worked matches on. This was during the transition in his character, morphing into the 'Crow' Sting and going after Hollywood Hogan and the nWo. At Halloween Havoc 1998, Sting challenged Bret Hart for the WCW United States Title. This would prove to be the man's first defeat on the Pay-Per-View series ever. After '98, Sting didn't win again at Halloween Havoc. In 1999, he was defeated under dubious circumstances by Goldberg (more on that later) and lost to Jeff Jarrett at the final Havoc show in October, 2000.
