At Wrestlemania 2000, Triple H defended the WWF Title in a Fatal Four-Way match, beating The Big Show, Mick Foley and The Rock. A McMahon family member was in each participant's corner, in a move designed to make the match even more unpredictable, but the landscape of the bout was originally very, very different. Mick Foley, as Cactus Jack, would retire - in storyline - following his loss to Triple H at No Way Out in February, 2000. In real life, Foley was looking to wind down his active, in-ring career, and had every intention of staying out of the limelight, at least for a little while. That is, of course, until the prospect of main-eventing Wrestlemania came around. Simply put, Foley could not knock back the chance to be in the featured match at 'Mania, but he did knock out Chris Jericho, who was initially scheduled to be the fourth man in the match. Writing about it in one of his books, Jericho remarks that he was none too pleased about being thrown out of the main event scene, all because Foley wanted to live his dream of main eventing himself. The match was changed so late in the day that promotional posters had already been made up, showing Jericho as being part of proceedings.
