Owens' high-profile feud with John Cena was way too rushed, with their trio of matches playing out in less than two months time. Once Cena won the final two matches, the latter by submission, red-hot Owens veered a bit toward the lukewarm. Not unsalvageable, but certainly in need of a jump start. Winning the Intercontinental belt from Ryback at Night of Champions was a good start. The special Madison Square Garden show that aired on WWE Network the night of October 3 was another solid foot forward, with Jericho putting Owens over in a relatively short match. The match coincided with Jericho's 25-year anniversary as a professional wrestler, which was made more special by the presence of Lance Storm, Jericho's first opponent, at ringside. Still, business is business, and Jericho gave Owens a credible victory.
