Confusingly, by January, 1991, less than six months after he'd won the title, WCW decided to remove Sting from the top of the mountain, replacing him once again with Ric Flair. Few can argue that Flair deserved to be a World Champion, he was still on top of his game in the early-90's, but this was not a great show of faith for the fan favourite. Sting would rebound the next month at Superbrawl, taking part in one of the most revered tag-team matches of the period, teaming with Lex Luger to face The Steiner Brothers, but it must have been disheartening for the man to be whipped out of the top line mix so casually. The guy had only been gaining steam as champion, and it seemed a bit premature to take the gold from around his waist. Facing The Black Scorpion, which was Flair under a mask, throughout the Winter months didn't do much for the Stinger either, and fans were begging to see Sting tear it up against fresh challengers.
