By 1999, the WCW World Title didn't quite mean as much as it had the first time Sting captured the promotion's biggest championship. Wrestling had changed throughout the 90's, and title changes were coming thick and fast. In April, of '99, things started getting a little silly, and Sting would have the dubious honour of holding the strap for only an hour and a half. On the April 26 episode of Monday Nitro, Sting defeated Diamond Dallas Page in a singles match to bag the title, but would lose it later in the same program, back to DDP, in a four-way bout which also included Goldberg and Kevin Nash. To make matters worse, Page didn't even pin Sting, instead beating Nash. Quite what the purpose of moving the belt to DDP at Spring Stampede earlier in the month, and having Sting beat him on Nitro - then having Page regain the belt later on the same broadcast - was remains unclear. Once again, the Icon was made to look like a bit of a fool by WCW, even though he was one of their biggest and most loyal stars.
