It's been said that if you're going to go out, go out in a blaze of glory. It seems Vince McMahon took that somewhat literally, booking his own character to first enter a limousine, before the vehicle was then shown being blown to smithereens. It was an interesting concept, and came across as pretty final - performers had escaped certain death on wrestling TV before, but this was pretty out there. In retrospect, it was all a bit melodramatic, but McMahon really was determined to apparently kill off his on-screen character, banishing him from the screen forever more. Who knows how long this realistically would have lasted, but fans never got the chance to find out. In the wake of the Chris Benoit tragedy, WWE made the decision to have Vince come out and explain that the car-exploding sketch was little more than a fictional storyline, and that McMahon hadn't really been harmed. Of course, this is something everybody already knew, but it was a smart move from WWE to distance themselves from the concept of death following the Benoit situation.
