10 Times WWE Stars Were Struck By The Intercontinental Title Curse

4. Edge (2004)

Even though he was a superb in-ring performer, Edge struggled to really become a top main event player in WWE for years. In 2004, his 5th run as WWE Intercontinental Champion began at the Vengeance Pay-Per-View in July. There, Edge beat Randy Orton to collect the gold, and the crowd inside the Hartford Civic Centre went wild for the title switch. Plans were in place to turn Edge heel towards the end of the year, but a groin injury would force him out of the ring. This wouldn't be the first or last time that injury troubles would derails the Canadian's career, and it was a sickening blow for the man that he was forced to vacate the Intercontinental Title. In September, Edge handed over the belt, and Chris Jericho promptly won it after a match against Christian at Unforgiven. Admittedly, Edge did still turn rogue and go on to bigger and better things, but he must have regretted having to vacate the Intercontinental strap. Many years later during an article with WWE's official website, Edge said that he had plans to make the belt the workhorse title once more, and those were spoiled by his injury curse.
