5. John Cena's Surprise Rumble Return

The Royal Rumble would be nothing without the countless mind-blowing returns it has delivered over the years, and John Cena's in 2008 sits near the top of the pile. It was an incredible moment, and easily one of the year's biggest highlights, with not a single audience member caught up in the adrenaline rush.

Cena had torn his pectoral muscle just three months prior. The original prognosis was that he'd be absent all the way to WrestleMania and beyond, which made a Rumble appearance almost unthinkable. It turns out, however, that Cena is actually Lazarus reincarnated, and he recovered in miraculous time, entering the Rumble at number 30.

Everybody was blown away, but the crowd reaction is well worth revisiting. Madison Square Garden initially erupts into cheers, before the endorphin rush subsides, and half the building suddenly remember that they're supposed to hate John Cena. Still, his shock return made for an incredible Rumble moment, proving that even the most cynical wrestling fans will still buy into a well-executed comeback, though it's hard to imagine the company not making a meal of it if not for John's remarkable recovery.
