10 Times WWE Totally WASTED Money In The Bank

9. Austin Theory (2022)

As much as Austin Theory has never been popular, it would be negligent to ignore WWE at least endeavouring to get a new headliner over. Naturally cocky and a solid hand between the ropes, Theory was also just 24 when he was rocketed up the card in 2022 as Mr Money in the Bank. He was still struggling to connect with crowds as a convincing headliner, but that would come with time, surely. Time that Austin Theory did not have.

An expose of Vince McMahon's harrowing sexual exploitation of Janel Grant forced him off the board, with Triple H assuming Vince's duties on the creative side of the operation. Theory went from a potential WWE Champion to being lucky to have a job. Doomed without Vince's magic pen, Austin, while still holding the Money in the Bank briefcase, went on a losing streak, looking at the lights for Kevin Owens, Seth Rollins, and others.

He eventually managed to cash in, at least.

For the secondary United States Title.

But he lost.

Great.
