10 Triple H Orchestrated Championship Screwjobs
10. Chris Jericho – Raw, 17 April 2000
Back during the McMahon-Helmsley era, Triple H used his “authority” to screw Chris Jericho out of a WWE title win and fire Earl Hebner for good measure.
Kicking off Raw with an impromptu championship defense against Jericho, Triple H let his temper get the better of him as he shoved replacement referee Hebner to the ground – to which Hebner would respond shortly after with a fast count to gift Jericho the victory.
Of course, 'The Game' was having none of it. Straight after the match, he was in the back, chasing down Hebner and dragging him back out to ring along with Mike Chioda, the referee who’d initially been assigned to the match.
Triple H had Chioda confirm the fast count, before using that clarification to force Hebner to reverse the decision, retrieve the title from a guiltless Jericho and literally put the belt back around Triple H’s waist. The champ then put the icing on the cake by firing Hebner for his actions and laying him out with a Pedigree.
That left Jericho, who’d technically done nothing wrong, robbed of a title win simply because Triple H had power to abuse as the on-screen husband of a McMahon.
