10 Ups & 4 Downs From IMPACT Wrestling (20 May)
7. Destroying VSK, Canadian Style
When you saw Petey Williams vs. VSK booked for last night’s IMPACT, you likely presumed something was happening either before, during, or after the match. Petey is rarely used these days, and even when he is, it’s only as a supporting role, while VSK is used as an enhancement talent by the company.
Instead, an actual match happened. That’s it. Petey got a win and VSK – an AEW Dark regular – got some more screen time. This worked.
It was a fairly decent match, too, with the duo sharing offence rather than this being a straight squash of VSK. The X Division pioneer carried the bout and made sure everything flowed together, but VSK still had some standout moments. His standing Frog Splash was gorgeous, but a Canadian Destroyer got a win in the book for ‘The Maple Leaf Muscle'.
Not much to note on this one. Petey is viewed as a legend now, rather than a fully-fledged member of the roster, that he went over a quote unquote jobber rather than, for example, Brian Myers was key.
