The chances were slim-to-none that Jeff Jarrett would have been signed by Vince McMahon. Leaving the then-WWF in late-1999, Jarrett joined WCW and almost instantly became a main event star. McMahon had reportedly been held to ransom by the wrestler at No Mercy '99. In order to lose to Chyna, Jarrett demanded more money, or so the story goes. Jarrett's contract was on the cusp of running out, but the former Intercontinental Champion has denied the situation. Claiming it to be false, it's nonetheless logical that Vince McMahon had some beef with Jarrett over something, because he was one of the men Vince disparaged on live TV. During the Raw/Nitro simulcast, McMahon pretty much fired Jeff. The smart move would have been to capitalise on this. Even WWF fans who didn't watch WCW would have still been aware who Jarrett was, and he'd been a WCW World Champion. Having wrestlers like Lance Storm and Mike Awesome was one thing, but Jeff Jarrett was a bigger name than both, and the Invasion lacked that star power.
