Don't hinder Jinder!

In hindsight though, someone probably should have hindered Jinder. Not even in hindsight, just immediately.

Everyone could see it was a terrible idea for him to be pushed as the company's top champion during a period of undulating ratings and limping creativity.

Everyone bar WWE's cartoon-esque dollar-sign eyeballs.

Mahal's impressively jacked physique was enough for Vince McMahon to shoot him out of a cannon and into the WWE Championship scene in an instant, with one eye on cracking the elusive Indian market that the company has never been able to fully utilise.

While Jinder certainly can't be faulted for working hard on his look and body, he's never exactly been a Bret Hart between the ropes.

On top of that, his sudden rise from Curt Hawkins' jobber to top heel just wasn't believable. There was not enough build, not enough done to paint him as a credible threat, and thus the fans rejected him.

Mahal headlined three pay-per-views, and was defending WWE Champion in a few more, throughout 2017. No doubt a genuinely lifting career-highlight for him.

No one took him seriously though, despite the company trying to use veterans Randy Orton and Shinsuke Nakamura to get him over as a top heel.
