10 Worst WWE Championship Reigns Of The 2000s

6. Randy Orton (April-June 2009)

Remember that stupid six-man tag team match from King of the Ring 2000? Well, WWE thought it was so rubbish, they brought it back nine years later!

At Backlash 2009, WWE Champion Triple H once again teamed up with Vince and Shane to battle The Legacy (Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, Ted DiBiase Jr). Instead of Vince taking the loss, Orton got the pin on Trips to secure the title, prompting everyone to ask why this wasn't just a singles match.

What followed was a textbook case of bad booking.

Orton then entered into a feud with another former Evolution member, Batista. At Judgment Day, The Animal defeated The Viper, but via disqualification. Then, at Extreme Rules, he got beaten again, this time in a steel cage.

To summarise, Orton won the title in a crap match and lost both of his title defences in the space of just 42 days. If that wasn't bad enough, Batista got injured during the cage match, so had to give up the belt just two days later. The vacant title was then won by... Randy Orton.

What a waste of time.
