In the 90s, everyone knew The Rock and Stone Cold would headline WrestleMania. The question was when? Well in 1999, wrestling fans got their wish. WWEs two top stars of its defining period met at WrestleMania 15 in Philadelphia, PA, and set off a trilogy of mania matches that wouldnt finish until 2003. Stone Cold Steve Austin was attempting to regain the title that had been taken from him the previous year, meanwhile a 27-year-old Rock who was headlining his first showcase of the immortals. In a match that turned into a wild brawl, Austin was successful in dethroning The Great One for his championship. However, like his feud with Michaels, Austin shared tremendous history with his opponent. Previously, The Rock and Stone Cold had been the final two participants in the 1998 Royal Rumble, which came directly after their now classic feud over the Intercontinental Championship. At In Your House: DX, Stone Cold beat up the entire Nation Of Domination, and defeated The Rock to solidify himself as the true champion. The Rock was coming into his own at the time, on the microphone and in the ring. Austin was above the IC title at this point, and soon vacated the title saying, He had bigger fish to fry. Naturally, this rivalry struck a chord with WWE fans everywhere, and it was revisited throughout and to the conclusion of Stone Cold Steve Austins career.
