10 Wrestlers Who Could Talk You Into ANY Storyline

3. Roddy Piper

Roddy Piper was an early pioneer of the wrestling talk show segment, now a staple in the business. Piper’s Pit was the prototype for the talk show format we've seen in everything from the Heartbreak Hotel to Miz TV. Piper is also known as "The Original Trash-Talker", a title he earned through infamous promo after infamous promo, from causing a riot in Mexico by mocking the audience’s national pride to controversially shooting on Vince Russo, blaming him for Owen Hart’s death. It is a credit to Piper’s originality that these promos seamlessly stand side-by-side with his more traditional WWE work.

Piper was notably involved in the first ever WrestleMania main event. Outside of celebrity appearances, the competing charismas of Piper and Hulk Hogan were the main draw to the historic event. When watched retrospectively, Piper’s heel work holds up in a way that Hogan’s babyface antics simply fail to.

However, next year’s WrestleMania would see him relying on his mic work to make the most out of, at best, a precarious situation. Nobody would argue that Piper’s clash with Mr. T at WrestleMania 2 was anything close to a classic. However, Piper’s natural heelish charisma kept the feud entertaining.
