10 Wrestlers Who Managed To Get Themselves Out Of Terrible Ideas
7. Mick Foley
When Mick Foley first got to WWE after years of waiting for his opportunity, he was overjoyed. When Vince McMahon proposed the character that Foley would play - a tortured, hateful soul confined to a boiler room who was determined to take his pain out on his opponents and the fans - he was ready to go. After all, he had a lot of frustration with the wrestling business that he felt he could express through the gimmick.
The problem came when McMahon pitched the character's name to Foley - Mason the Mutilator. Foley immediately realized how terrible the suggested sobriquet was, but he didn't want to simply shoot down his boss's idea without one of his own. Thinking quickly, Foley came up with "Mankind" - not only did it have a better ring to it, but the wordplay afforded by promos where he spoke about "the fate of Mankind" was too attractive to pass up.
Thankfully, McMahon agreed, and Mason the Mutilator never hit the screen.
