10 Wrestling Bouts From Other Promotions That Need Rematches In WWE
One more time, on the grandest stage of all...
Over the course of the past decade - and especially in recent years - WWE has become a place where former independent stars can truly succeed. At one point, men like CM Punk and Daniel Bryan would have been dismissed by the company for not having the right look or not working the "WWE style", but their hard work (and the skill that got them over in front of the most demanding fans in wrestling) made them world champions and legitimate WWE superstars.
Seeing the two men wrestle each other in WWE - and they had some great matches in the promotion - was surreal for fans who had seen them clash in Ring of Honor. Though they never had a long-term feud in the independent league, their 2004 match showed just what chemistry the two stars shared.
They're not the only pair of workers who clashed in the independents before making it to WWE. Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn have been friends for well over a decade, and it's because they've worked together so often. From the Canadian indies to ROH to NXT to WWE, Owens and Zayn have tangled all over the place.
With all the independent and international talent that's joined (and is about to join) the company, what other rematches can we see on the biggest stage in wrestling? Let's take a look...
10. Austin Aries Vs. Bobby Roode
Though Austin Aries and Bobby Roode - collectively known as 'Dirty Heels' - are most often remembered as a tag team, their partnership was initially born out of a feud. Aries's sole reign as TNA World Heavyweight Champion came when he defeated Roode at Destination X. Aces and Eights interfered in the first rematch between the two, and Aries won a second rematch to retain the title.
This being TNA, it was eventually revealed that Aries paid Aces and Eights off, making him a heel, as well. They continued to feud, going to a no contest in a number one contender-ship match, then both losing in a three-way match with new TNA Champion Jeff Hardy.
Eventually, their rivalry gave way to a partnership. Roode and Aries realized they could get more done together than at each other's throats, and they captured the TNA Tag Team Titles. Their reign wasn't long, but their feuds with Bad Influence and, later, The American Wolves made them a hot commodity.
Now that Bobby Roode has finally debuted for NXT, he and 'The Greatest Man That Ever Lived' can finally revisit their rivalry with a singles match... and then pick up their partnership with another run as tag team champions.
