10 Wrestling Facts We Didn't Know Last Week (Jan 20)
5. WWE Offered To Train Goldberg Before WCW
Bruce Prichard's 'Something To Wrestle With' podcast is a weekly goldmine of information relating to the inner workings of the WWF/WWE. Due to the success of his new venture, Prichard has been invited for interviews elsewhere. His most recent came with Wrestling Inc, who probed the former creative team member on a critical time for WWE.
Watching with envy as the nWo tore up WCW during the late-1990's, Prichard said credit must also be given for how Bill Goldberg was initially handled. Making things more annoying for the then-WWF was that they had approached the future World Champion first, only to be turned down.
Before Goldberg agreed to sign a WCW deal and train at the promotion's Power Plant facility, Jim Ross had put out feelers to the fledgling star. Friendly with Goldberg due to their shared hometown of Oklahoma, JR had designs on bringing Bill into the WWF and training him there.
Unfortunately for the company, Goldberg chose WCW in the end. Prichard says this was a bone of contention for the WWF, especially when Goldberg caught fire in a rival organisation.
