10 WWE Stars That Should Have Won The World Title Sooner

6. Jeff Hardy

Maybe this is becoming more than just a coincidence, because here we have another name who should have won the world title sooner, and another who spent some time away from the company beforehand.

Again, like Guerrero this one shouldn’t necessarily have happened years or even months quicker than it did; it only needed to brought forward a matter of a few weeks.

Hardy’s first WWE Championship was won at Armageddon 2008, when he emerged victorious from a Triple Threat with Edge and Triple H. However, he had been scheduled to compete in another title match at the preceding Survivor Series PPV.

There, he’d been pencilled in to face Triple H and Vladimir Kozlov, but was replaced by Edge after he had been “found unconscious in a stairwell at his hotel” the night before the show.

Now, while some thought this was a slightly tasteless angle, for me the bigger issue was that it robbed Jeff of a major WWE Championship win at a Big Four PPV.

As far as I can tell, these steps had been taken so that they could eventually make the big reveal that it was Matt Hardy who had caused all these “accidents” and thus build towards a showdown at WrestleMania XXV. But I feel like they’d have been better off holding out on that one for just a couple of weeks, if only for the sake of Jeff getting his big Survivor Series moment.
