10 WWE Stars Who Need To Follow Neville Out Of The Exit Door
3. Apollo Crews
Apollo Crews is a strange case - something of an indictment of several arguments in support of WWE.
WWE is held aloft as the company in which Independent starlets discover their personalities and become sports entertainers. WWE is also held aloft as the company in which spot monkeys "learn psychology" and develop the ability to bind those spots together with narrative tissue. Conversely, Crews does his freakishly athletic bits on meaningless RAW matches devoid of any story or stakes, during which he smiles brightly yet blankly as if there is only a vacuous void lurking within. His stint in NXT clearly didn't prepare him for life in the big time. Crews doesn't maximise his minutes. A man with supernatural ability, he really could do with another Independent excursion, with its extemporaneous platform, to flesh out his personality. Three hours of RAW is still somehow not long enough for the brand's roster to project themselves to the audience.
Crews typifies WWE's old toy syndrome. Watching his career fade into death slot obscurity, you are left with the distinct impression that Vince McMahon copped a load of his awesome physique, cut short his NXT run - sorely needed, on recent evidence - before losing interest, as he is wont to do.
