10 WWE Stars Who Need To Turn In 2017

3. Dean Ambrose

Dean Ambrose has apparently irked the WWE office with his perceived laziness, but the development is ironic. The material Ambrose is given is unoriginal in the extreme.

He's meant to be a renegade in the Steve Austin vein, but WWE has taken the broad strokes of the act and brushed Ambrose with their colours but not the spirit. One particularly memorable Austin moment saw him toss The Rock's Intercontinental Title into a Portland river along with snorkelling goggles and an oxygen tank.

It was fantastic comedy with props, but Ambrose in comparison is a prop comic - a lame Carrot Top of a pro wrestler. Blame it on PG, blame it on scripted promos, blame it on Ambrose's refusal or inability to colour outside of the lines - but the man who was signed on the strength of his vicious, psycho skid row heel character needs to resurrect it if he stands any chance of orbiting the main event again, much less entering it on a permanent basis.

Ambrose is a comedic wrestling act and he's not particularly funny. Worse still, he's meant to be unhinged. The sad part is that he was meant to have all the potential in the world - and he might have, once - but his regression might yet preclude WWE from pushing him as a heel.

Whether they go all in or not, it's a desperately needed development. And, if he still has the desire, his work could force WWE's hand.
