10. Roman Reigns

How can someone who was afforded title after title and WrestleMania main event after WrestleMania main event be considered undesirable?

Did you hear the fans?

One of Roman Reigns' biggest pitfalls was that he wasn't Daniel Bryan. The fans had clearly forged their connection to their hero, and had made that very clear in the lead up to WrestleMania XXX. The dull Evolution main event was gate crashed by the American Dragon and the rest is history. Injury robbed the fans of a true title run, and unfortunately, Reigns was their next obstacle.

He was Vince's choice to be the face of the company. Not the fans'.

For seven long years, everything the man did was met with resounding boos. The rejection was endless, so much so that after defeating The Undertaker at WrestleMania 32, the former Shield member was drowned out for minutes the following night. The character was bland. The promos and ring work were average at best. Something needed to change for him for him to take his already prescribed place at the top of the company.

That happened at SummerSlam 2020. In the midst of the pandemic era, surrounded by a wall of monitors, the 'Tribal Chief' was born. A shock return, an even more shocking heel turn and alliance with Paul Heyman, and Reigns was instantly transformed into the megastar he was predicted to be. A record breaking run as champion, along with his sensational performances, have turned the 'Head of the Table' into the biggest star in wrestling.
