6. Randy Savage

Randy Savage was a true superstar even before his history-changing performance at WrestleMania III. But his clash with Ricky Steamboat for the Intercontinental Championship helped him climb the proverbial ladder and it was no coincidence he would be called upon to wear the world championship just one year later. All this despite losing the famed-bout inside the Pontiac Silverdome.

Fast forward a few years and Savage once again found himself benefiting from a loss at WrestleMania.

This time it was against the Ultimate Warrior in a Career Ending Match at WrestleMania VII. After a hard-fought contest which many claim as Warrior's greatest, the Macho King was defeated. When Miss Elizabeth made a surprise return to save Savage from Sensational Queen Sherri's post-match beatdown, the two had an emotional reunion that is still considered the greatest storyline-arc in WWE history.

Once again, Savage would find himself hoisting the WWE Championship just a year after his high-profile loss at WrestleMania, this time by defeating Ric Flair at WrestleMania VIII.

The Macho Man was a shining example of how one does not need to win the match in order to win the night.
