It wasn't just precedent that the scene wasn't without - the whole sequence was about as charming as the commercial break craic from the ripped-off superfans in attendance.

Astounding in NXT, Dawson and Dash were reductively booked in the run-up to WrestleMania and used again as punchline performers in the Greatest Royal Rumble. It slashed initial hopes that their future was more assured thanks to the pillaging of Raw's doubles division by SmackDown Live! in the Superstar Shake-up, with Vince McMahon most likely having more interest in getting more out of monsters Bobby Lashley and Braun Strowman than two soft-bellied hard-hitters with an almost-dead reputation as the best in the business.

Their relentless mistreatment since both got off the injured list a few months ago implies that even NXT godfather Triple H might have given up the fight for their preservation. It's hard to see their way back up the ladder when it's already been kicked away.
