4. Alberto Del Rio

Alberto Del Rio made his long awaited WWE debut on the August 20, 2010 edition of SmackDown and with a win over Rey Mysterio in his premiere match for the blue brand, he was destined to become a top-tier talent in WWE fairly quickly.

He took his first steps toward super stardom by winning the 40-man Royal Rumble match in 2011, the largest in history, but failed to capture the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 27 and Extreme Rules, respectively. According to Del Rio, however, it was still his destiny to to become a world champion, later proving that to be true by winning the Money in the Bank briefcase and subsequently the WWE Championship.

It was rumored that a Del Rio-John Cena feud was scheduled for the latter half of 2011, and ultimately, it came to fruition right after SummerSlam. Del Rio was perfectly cast as the heel champion with Cena in chase mode, but his title reign was deemed a failure when he dropped the strap to Cena at the next month at Night of Champions via submission.

Apparently, officials wanted to see a spike in the ratings, which is why they played hot potato with the prize for the fall of 2011. It didn't do anything to legitimatize Del Rio, though; he was never again looked at as a threat to the main event scene.
