Even as far back as 2008, WWE was becoming aware of Cena backlash building. He was a three-time world champ who had help the companys top title for two of the past three years, and his character was starting to become stale (its hard to believe that this is six years ago were talking about here). WWE had recently resigned Cryme Tyme and paired the popular duo with Cena, forming a mini-faction dubbed CTC (Cryme Tyme Cenation). Cryme Tyme gave Cena an air of credibility in his battles with JBL, vandalizing his limo and tormenting the former champ. Considering that Cena first got over with fans because of his hardened street-smart persona, partnering with two streetwise guys seemed like an easy way to rejuvenate his image and boost his cred.Unfortunately for everyone (especially Cryme Tyme, who were getting a pretty decent push out of the deal), Cena got injured shortly after the pairing, and they disbanded.
