Fresh off the breakup of the Shield in June, Roman Reigns embarked on a journey that many say will culminate with a WWE World Heavyweight Championship title win at WrestleMania XXXI. Reaching that level would mean that he would be on par with WWEs top good guy, John Cena. Almost immediately after the Shields breakup, Cena positioned himself alongside Reigns to combat the Authority while a rivalry budded. First, he teamed with Reigns and Dean Ambrose to take on the Wyatt Family. Then he and Reigns teamed with Sheamus on a couple occasions. Reigns and Cena would team up during the summer to take on the Authority in a variety of matches. There also was a memorable moment at the end of Raw when Reigns and Cena took turns raising each others arms to elicit cheers (Reigns) and boos (Cena) from the crowd.Had Reigns not required an appendectomy in September, the respect rivalry would likely have continued, with Cena visually elevating Reigns and Roman giving Cena the air of being relevant and respected. In this case, this pairing might have been mutually beneficial, but Cena stood to gain more in being inserted into Reigns battles with the Authority.
