11 Ups & 0 Downs From AEW Dynamite (May 31 - Review)
5. Don Callis & Konosuke Takeshita Can't Speak
This was perfect.
Pro wrestling done right, Don Callis and Konosuke Takeshita entered to a chorus of boos that would have drowned out any music had some been playing. Instead, fans were forced to watch looping images of the duo's dastardly assault on Kenny Omega, all as the pair dared to wear faces of innocence and confusion. Both elements of the presentation conspired to increase the heat to a new level.
Then Callis hit the ring and increased that.
Further extricating himself from Omega forever, he referred to Takeshita as the son that his "nephew" Omega could never be. Struggling to be heard on mic over the boos, he partially pleaded with Tony Schiavone as if the host that had just referred to him as "the biggest piece of human garbage" was going to help. "What am I supposed to do here" as a faux cry for help ingeniously only riled the fans up more, and the best heel-explains-his-actions segment of all time concluded with the villains barely getting half their spiel out due to the vitriol.
