When WWE launched their Brock Lesnar project in 2002, they had their sights firmly set on one day putting him against Kurt Angle. It became the feud that defined Lesnar, in addition to becoming Angle's greatest WWE legacy. While many fans will dwell on the more recent work that Brock produced against John Cena, or the storied battles he had with The Undertaker, it was the Lesnar versus Angle feud which best captured what 'The Beast' is all about. It's pretty crazy to think it all went down over twelve years ago. Lesnar had stormed the WWE in 2002, enjoying a sensational rookie year in which he became WWE Champion. That same story had been true of Kurt Angle just a few years earlier. Both were viewed as 'real wrestlers' and came across as something different to everyone else on WWE's roster. Those perceptions of toughness and legitimacy were what made the Angle and Lesnar feud so engaging. Even the WWE locker room were enthralled, and encouraged the two men to have a real life amateur grapple shoot on one backstage occasion. WWE never really mention the feud, because Kurt Angle is now with TNA Impact Wrestling. But it is a feud well worth remembering, with various factors that made it so special.
