Admittedly, the WWE produced 'ECW One Night Stand 2006' had a lot going for it before Mick Foley came on board. A cracking WWE Title main event between John Cena and Rob Van Dam was promised, as was an Extreme Rules battle between Sabu and Rey Mysterio for the World Heavyweight Championship. Aside from a few other bouts, there weren't really many hardcore highlights fans could look forward to. Thankfully, Foley was on hand to team with his old rivals, Edge and Lita. Facing Terry Funk, Tommy Dreamer and Beulah McGillicutty, the sextet produced an excellent intergender scrap that ticked all the boxes. It'd be inaccurate and unfair to say that the match saved the Pay-Per-View, but it did help heighten proceedings. By agreeing to the bout, Foley was showing his dedication to the cause. WWE were looking to get behind the ECW name as a third brand, and needed One Night Stand 2006 to be a rip-roaring success. Once again putting his body through hell, Mick pitched in more than his fair share. Fans were excited to see what the company could do with the re-branded extreme league.
