12 Things WWE Owes To Mick Foley

9. Putting Up With Backstage Politics As An Announcer

For a few months in 2008, Mick Foley worked as an on-screen announcer for WWE. The gig didn't go well, and actually led to the 'Hardcore Legend' leaving the company on relatively bad terms. After working as a commentator alongside the likes of Michael Cole and Jim Ross, Foley said that his partners weren't the problem. Instead, he had issues with Vince McMahon. It's well-known that McMahon likes to relay instructions to his announcers during shows. This must make the task incredibly difficult. Not only to commentators have to act as a narrator for what's happening on screen, they also have to keep a keen ear on messages coming from their boss. It's a balancing act that not everybody can successfully perform. According to Foley, he didn't appreciate the harsh tone and statements coming from McMahon towards him during broadcasts. It's true that continually bawling at announcers is a little over-the-top, but Foley tried his best to put up with it during his run. That deserves credit, because his ego must have taken a hit when the boss started shouting at him whilst he was trying to do his job.
