12 Times WWE Brutally CANCELLED World Championship Reigns

6. Zeus

Not only was Zeus reportedly pencilled in to win the WWF Championship, but he was allegedly promised a one-year reign.

One year!

A quick gander at the belt's Wikipedia page will show you the long list of wrestlers far more talented than Zeus ever was, whose multiple reigns don't even amount to one calendar year; Kurt Angle (297 days across four reigns); Daniel Bryan (210 days across four reigns); Eddie Guerrero (133 days across one reign); Mick Foley (47 days across three reigns); the legitimate very best of all time, but they almost went down in history behind one of the very biggest flops of all time.

Coinciding with the Zeus character starring opposite Hulk Hogan in the poorly-received 1989 flick, No Holds Barred, the rumour is that Vince McMahon promised the real-life Tommy Lister, Jr. a year-long run at the top, beginning at WrestleMania 6. Indeed, 365 days of Zeus being WWF Champion would have come at the expense of the actual 'Mania 6 headliner: Hulk Hogan vs. The Ultimate Warrior.

Instead, Zeus was out on his ar*e by the time the 1990 Royal Rumble rolled around, and another tick was scored in the column of hulking non-wrestlers who gave Vince McMahon the vapours being sent back to the shop because, surprise (!), they weren't up to scratch.
