12 Wrestling Personalities Who Delivered Pipebombs Before It Was Even A Thing

9. Shane Douglas

In 1994, Shane Douglas defeated 2 Cold Scorpio in a tournament final to win the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. There was a great deal of excitement surrounding the moment as some felt the Pittsburgh native was exactly what the once-proud organization needed to regain credibility and legitimacy in an industry had passed it by years earlier. What executive Dennis Coralluzzo could have never imagined was that the self-proclaimed "Franchise" would be the death of the organization, thanks to a pipebomb that proved a most blatant sign of defiance by both Douglas and ECW promoter Paul Heyman. Following the victory, Douglas grabbed a microphone and proceeded to dedicate the victory to the NWA champions of years past. From Ricky Steamboat to Terry Funk, Harley Race to Buddy Rogers, Even the young star's most hated nemesis, "Nature Boy" Ric Flair, received a shout out. Rather than showing them respect, though, he swerved the entire wrestling world, demanding they kiss his ass before tossing the most prestigious belt in wrestling history on the ground like a piece of trash. It was a moment that shocked the world, as did his refusal to accept the crown of an organization that he felt was dead and gone.Instead, Douglas referred to himself as the new ECW champion, the face of a revolution. It was the first shot fired in ECW, Douglas and Heyman's war on the establishment. The industry would never again be the same, they were exclaiming. Douglas could very well have gotten himself blacklisted from the industry for his actions. Instead, he became one of its most sought after stars, thanks to the conviction with which he spoke and the quality of his ring work. Without that moment, though, he would have never been a blip on the national radar and the extreme era of professional wrestling would have never existed.
