12 WWE Clash Of Champions 2019 Impulse Reactions

6. Shinsuke Nakamura (c) Vs. The Miz

Your writer is still mourning the company's decision to cut Sami Zayn's microphone so early into an Intercontinental Title clash that ultimately over-delivered, but as well as avoiding a potential Abraham Washington-sized disaster, the lack of distraction put the focus back on what turned into a pretty great effort between two wrestlers that probably shouldn't have meshed that well.

It had a lot of the usual about it, of course - Nakamura gobbled up much of the middle by not doing all that much, whilst the 'A-Lister' sold to an audience not caring all that much, but this is WWE midcard cause and effect in action, not the fault of the hardworking superstars keeping their big surprises for the end.

A couple of near falls got the audience worked up enough to buy in to The Miz equalling Chris Jericho's number of reigns with the secondary strap, but the man himself can't buy a big win this year. Zayn's persistent interference resulting in Nakamura hitting a wicked Kinshasa-esque kick on the floor to set up his match-winning one seconds later.

This was pretty, pretty good, but keep your enthusiasm curbed ahead of a potential rematch.
